Kissing the Shuttle
48" x 36"
Created for OMMA's show 'Woven' in Almonte.
From the late 1800's to the 1950's, the Lancashire cotton mills were a dangerous place to work.
Many succumbed to Tuberculosis, bronchitis and asthma due to the cotton lint and dust. One problem included the practice of kissing the shuttles .
These shuttles were in many cases taken from dusty shelves and then the habit of sucking the yarn through the shuttle would create respiratory problems in itself.
In this painting the images at the top of the work symbolize the hopes and dreams of the workers, the bottom depicts the reality of a hard and weary life.

Tuesday Afternoon at the Club

I'm not happy with this piece as it got so overworked, but I will get it fixed!
(Others disagree, but I can't leave it as is)

The last of the black and white pieces... it floated into colour.
Should be with the Black and Whites I suppose, but doesn't quite qualify, plus it IS large.

After All
Rather decorative, with metallic peelies and interference and irridescent paints, this is still one of my favourites. New York, after the fall of the towers... which show only slightly in the background sky.
When sold I didn't point that out, but wonder if I should have, and if they have seen it yet. I hope it doesn't change their opinion of the piece.
